We actually answer, and we come ready to fix it
I’m Victor from Holy Mess Repairs. When your roof is leaking at 10 pm, you need two things: someone who picks up the phone, and someone who stops the water.
We’re genuinely 24 hours. A real person answers, asks what’s happening and tells you honestly when we can get there.
Many companies will only inspect at night and come back tomorrow to do the work, while the leak keeps going. We’re built to fix it on the first visit. Our vans carry all the roof tools and materials for temporary repairs, including tarps, make-safe tape and sealants, plus lights so we can work on a roof safely after dark. Whether you call in the afternoon or late at night, the aim is the same: stop the water before we leave.

What counts as a roof emergency?
- Water coming through the ceiling or light fittings
- Tiles or sheets blown off in a storm
- A tree or branch through the roof
- Box gutters or valleys overflowing into the house
- Ceiling sagging or bulging with water
- Flashings ripped loose in the wind
- A skylight or penetration leaking badly in heavy rain
If you’re not sure, call. We’ll tell you if it can wait until morning.
Before we get there
- Stay safe. If the ceiling is sagging or water is near light fittings or power points, keep everyone out of that room. Turn the power off at the switchboard if it’s safe to do so.
- Catch the water. Buckets and towels under the drips. If the ceiling is bulging, don’t poke it yourself; keep people out from under it.
- Move what matters. Electronics, documents and furniture away from the leak, or covered in plastic.
- Stay off the roof. Wet roofs are slippery, especially at night. Leave it to us.
- Take photos. Inside and out, for your insurer.
- In a life-threatening emergency, call 000. For storm help when nobody can reach you, the SES is on 132 500.
How our emergency roof repairs work

- You call, we answer. Any hour. Tell us what you can see and send photos if you can.
- We talk you through staying safe while we’re on the way.
- We stop the water. Depending on the damage: resealing a flashing or skylight, replacing broken tiles, clearing a blocked valley or box gutter, re-fixing lifted sheets, or a properly secured tarp. We bring lights for night work.
- We record the cause. Photos and notes on what happened and what we did, which your insurer will want.
- We price the permanent repair. If the make-safe is temporary, you get a fixed price for the proper fix before we start it.
After-hours emergency pricing: After hours there’s a $330 call-out fee, and the minimum charge for a make-safe, repair or patch done on the spot is $550. We’ll confirm the cost on the phone before we head out.

Tarps done properly
A tarp is only as good as how it’s fixed. Thrown over a roof and weighed down with bricks or sandbags, it pools water, flaps in the wind, scratches tiles and often leaks or blows off within days. On a tiled roof, we tuck the top edge under the ridge tiles so water runs over the tarp, not under it, run the bottom into the gutter, and tension it with ropes. We use heavy-duty UV-rated tarps, not thin hardware-store ones. Then we come back and do the permanent repair.
Real emergency and make-safe jobs across Victoria
Donnybrook: tiles lost in high winds
High winds stripped a section of tiles from a modern concrete tile roof. We made it safe and did the immediate repair: about 30 tiles, 3 ridge caps re-bedded and pointed, and the surrounding tiles clipped. That work came to $1,760 including GST. While on the roof, we found why the wind had got in so easily (unclipped tiles and ridge pointing that had been applied incorrectly) and wrote it up for the insurer, so the full fix could be claimed.
Belmont, Geelong: insurance make-safe
An insurance make-safe at a home in Belmont, near Geelong, after a garage door impact. The insurer approved $1,650 including GST, and the work was completed.
Gippsland: Traralgon and Newborough
In Traralgon, we realigned displaced tiles and fitted a 3.6 m tarp. In Newborough, we cleared the valleys, applied a storm seal and tarped the roof, then set out the permanent repairs needed.
Around Melbourne
Ridge capping leaks tarped in Bonnie Brook, slipped valley tiles replaced with new valley flashing and re-bedded ridges in Pakenham, skylight and wall junctions tarped in Coburg, and a storm-collapsed pergola cleared in Euroa.
Caulfield North: heavy rain leak
An old metal roof with skylights was leaking in Melbourne’s heavy rain. Watch the video below to see how we diagnosed and fixed it.

Pre-arrival estimate
Gable masonry re-bed after tree impact · Balwyn North VIC
Storm-damage repair quote for a home in Balwyn North, where a falling tree branch damaged the gable-end masonry. Prepared before attending from the assessor’s report and two site photos, it covers re-mortaring and rebedding about 3.5 metres of gable and replacing the missing quad timber, for $1,386 including GST.
Insurance
Porous tiles, torn sarking, over-bedded valley · Newborough VIC
Insurance leak report from Newborough in Gippsland. Water was coming into the hallway because the tiles had become porous, the sarking underneath was torn, and a valley over-bedded with mortar was damming rainwater under the tiles. We removed the excess bedding, storm-sealed the area, and recommended permanent tile and sarking repairs.
Insurance
Displaced/broken tiles · Traralgon VIC
Emergency weatherproofing report from Traralgon. Several roof tiles had shifted or had broken lugs, so they no longer locked together and water could get in. We realigned the tiles where possible and secured a heavy-duty 3.6 by 3.6 metre tarp over the worst section to stop further internal damage until permanent repairs.
Insurance
Emergency make-safe · Bonnie Brook VIC
Emergency make-safe report from Bonnie Brook in Melbourne’s west. Cracked and missing mortar on the ridge capping was letting rain into the home. We recorded the damage on video, then installed a heavy-duty tarp over the leak area, positioned so water runs off properly, to protect the inside until the ridge can be permanently rebedded and repointed.
Insurance
Emergency make-safe · Coburg VIC
Before-and-after make-safe report from Coburg. A rusted, failed skylight and a gap where the tiles meet the wall were letting water pour into an internal corridor and through the downlights. We tarped and sandbagged both areas to make the home watertight and checked the wet downlights for electrical safety, with photos of every step.
Report
Slipped tiles & valley repair · Pakenham VIC
Before-and-after repair report from Pakenham. Concrete roof tiles had slipped along a valley, leaving a gap that exposed the battens and let water into the roof space. We refitted the tiles, installed new metal valley flashing, cut the tiles to fit neatly and rebedded the ridge, then checked the internal electrics for moisture damage.

Insurance claims
Storms and wind damage are usually what home insurance covers. Wear and tear usually isn’t. Our make-safe reports record the cause of damage, with before and after photos, and set out the permanent repair scope and price, so your insurer can assess the claim quickly. We do make-safe work for homeowners and for insurance builders. Whether a claim is accepted is up to your insurer.

After the emergency
Some emergencies are fixed for good on the night. Others need a temporary make-safe and a permanent repair once the weather clears. Either way, we’ll explain which it is. The permanent repair is priced before we start, and the warranty follows the type of repair and matches the supplier’s warranty. For example, a silicone patch carries around 2 years, and a full roof replacement carries 20 years on labour with the supplier’s 15 to 20-year materials warranty matched.

Emergency roof repair FAQs
Are you really available 24 hours?
Yes. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we do roof work at night with proper lighting.
Will you fix it that night or just look at it?
We’re built to fix it on the first visit. Our vans carry all the roof tools and materials for temporary repairs, including tarps, so in most cases we stop the water before we leave. If a permanent repair needs daylight or special materials, we make it safe that night and come back.
How fast can you get to me?
It depends on where you are and how many calls are coming in during a storm. We’ll give you an honest arrival time when you call.
Can you repair a roof while it’s raining?
Often, yes. Some sealants work on damp surfaces, and a properly secured tarp stops the water until the permanent repair can be done safely. If it isn’t safe to be on the roof, we’ll tell you and do what we can from inside.
What should I do while I wait?
Keep people away from sagging ceilings and wet electrics, turn the power off if it’s safe, catch the water, move valuables, take photos, and stay off the roof.
How long does an emergency tarp take to install?
Anywhere from about 15 minutes for a small area to a few hours for a large section, depending on the size and access. It’s done properly, tucked under the ridge and roped, so it won’t blow off.
Do you cover my town?
Yes, if you’re in Melbourne or within about a 2-hour drive. That includes Geelong, the Bellarine, Torquay, the Mornington Peninsula, Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Kyneton and the Macedon Ranges, Seymour, the Yarra Valley, Healesville, Warburton, Warragul, Traralgon, Phillip Island, Wonthaggi and Colac. Not sure? Call 03 8583 2640 and ask. Recent make-safe jobs include Belmont (Geelong), Traralgon, Newborough, Euroa and Pakenham.
Will you help with my insurance claim?
Yes. We record the cause of damage with photos and give a repair scope and price your insurer can assess. Whether they accept the claim is up to them.
How much does an emergency roof repair cost?
After hours there’s a $330 call-out fee, and the minimum charge for a make-safe, repair or patch done on the spot is $550. Beyond that, it depends on the damage. As examples, one wind-damage make-safe and immediate repair in Donnybrook was $1,760 including GST, and an insurance make-safe in Belmont was approved at $1,650 including GST. We tell you the price before we do the permanent repair.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Victorian licence 32176, recognised Australia-wide under mutual recognition laws, and insured through BizCover.
Do you charge for a quote?
Not for non-urgent jobs. Call or email us for a free estimate over the phone, send photos and videos on WhatsApp to 0426 204 244, and we’ll follow up in writing with the scenarios, costs and warranty. Emergencies attended after hours are charged at the after-hours emergency rates above, which we confirm on the phone first.
