Restore, repair or replace?
I’m Victor from Holy Mess Repairs. Not every old roof needs a restoration, and not every roof can be saved by one. We look at the tiles or sheets, the bedding and pointing, the valleys, flashings and gutters, and then tell you honestly whether maintenance, a restoration or a replacement makes the most sense.
What a restoration includes
- Bio-cleaning and high-pressure cleaning to remove moss, lichen and dirt, with silt controls so the runoff doesn’t go into the drains
- Replacing broken and cracked tiles
- Rebedding and repointing ridges and hips
- Valley work: clearing, re-laying or replacing valley irons
- Flashings around chimneys, walls, skylights and penetrations
- Coating where it suits the roof and you want it. You choose the coating, with options like RGL or Dulux

Steep and difficult roofs
Steep pitches, heritage roofs and roofs in high-rainfall or bushfire areas need more planning: rope access, debris control and extra attention to the valleys. We price that in up front, so there are no surprises.
Coatings and warranty
You choose the coating, with options like RGL or Dulux, and we give you the options for your roof in the written document. We honour the coating manufacturer’s warranty for as long as the manufacturer specifies: if the manufacturer says 11 years, we honour 11 years. On top of that, our workmanship is covered for up to 20 years.

Who does the work
I’m Victor (Varun) Chandra, the founder of Holy Mess Repairs (read about me). I hold a Certificate III in Plumbing (CPC32413), a Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing (CPC31411), so I’m qualified in waterproofing, and a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (CPC40110). From 2012 to 2015 I was a site manager on NSW Land & Housing programs.

Is a restoration worth it, or should I replace the roof?
If the tiles or sheets are mostly sound, a restoration is usually far cheaper than a new roof. If they’re porous, cracked across large areas or rusted through, we’ll tell you and price replacement as an option.

It depends on the size, the pitch and the weather. We give you a timeframe in the written document, along with each scenario’s cost.
Do you coat or paint roofs?
Yes, where it suits the roof. Coating is optional, and you choose the coating, with options like RGL or Dulux. The repairs underneath (tiles, bedding, pointing, valleys and flashings) are what stop the leaks.
