I’m Victor from Holy Mess Repairs. We look at the tiles or sheets, the coating, the bedding and pointing, the valleys, flashings and gutters, and then tell you honestly whether maintenance, a restoration or a replacement makes the most sense.
What a restoration includes
- Washing and high-pressure cleaning, with silt controls
- Replacing broken and cracked tiles, and fixing loose battens that make tiles sag
- Rebedding and repointing ridges and hips
- Valleys and valley guard: see gutters and valley guard
- Flashings around skylights, pergolas, walls and penetrations
- Repainting or coating where the old coating is peeling. You choose the coating, with options like RGL or Dulux

We honour the coating manufacturer’s warranty for as long as the manufacturer specifies: if the manufacturer says 11 years, we honour 11 years. On top of that, our workmanship is covered for up to 20 years.

Who does the work
I’m Victor (Varun) Chandra, the founder of Holy Mess Repairs (read about me). I hold a Certificate III in Plumbing (CPC32413), a Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing (CPC31411), so I’m qualified in waterproofing, and a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (CPC40110). From 2012 to 2015 I was a site manager on NSW Land & Housing programs.

- Dunlop: our inspection of a tiled home recorded eleven issues, including peeling tile coating, a loose batten causing tiles to sag, worn pergola and skylight flashings, rusting gutters and ridges needing rebedding. We recommended rebedding and repointing, new flashings, cleaning the gutters, and a wash and repaint estimated at $4,500 to $6,000.

Canberra roof restoration FAQs
Is a restoration worth it, or should I replace the roof?
If the tiles or sheets are mostly sound, a restoration is usually far cheaper than a new roof. If not, we’ll tell you and price replacement as an option.
Can you repaint a tile roof with peeling coating?
Yes. We wash it, fix the tiles, bedding and pointing first, then repaint with the coating you choose, with options like RGL or Dulux. Painting over broken pointing doesn’t stop leaks.
Does hail damage mean I need a restoration?
Not always. Sometimes it’s a few tiles. We photograph the damage for your insurer and tell you what’s actually needed.
What warranty do I get?
